Tooro Queen mother Best Kemigisa has been endorsed as the Ugandan Patron of Zonta  International, a global organization of executives and professionals working together  to advance the status of women worldwide through services and advocacy as launched on February 21st at Serena Hotel, Kampala.

While presiding over the launch of Zonta Kampala, the first chapter of the organisation in Uganda-as attended by over 40 Zonta representatives and 20 diplomats from all over the world, Gloriastene Agboola the continental governor of Zonta highlighted that Zonta’s endorsement of Kemigisa was inspired by the queen mothers zeal for uplifting women.

“Inspired by Kemigisa’s passion for women, Zonta thought it wise to honour her as its Patron with the intent of achieving the realisation of its vision of a world where women’s rights are recognized as human rights and, every woman is able to achieve her full potential.

In such a world, every woman is literate and has access to education, health care, legal and economic resources on an equal basis with men. In such a world, no woman lives in fear of violence.” said Agboola.

“Together, we shall join hands and fight to uplift the living conditions of women and children in Africa and the world in general,” pledged Kemigisa

Speaking on behalf of the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development, Mary Karooro Okurut and the director of community development, Jane Sanyu Mpagi welcomed Zonta to Uganda, highlighting that majority of women around the country are still marginalised.
