Ayieko warns beach soccer rivals

MUBS coach Charles Ayieko has no kind words for any of their opponents in the Pepsi Beach Soccer League as the second round rolled off with a brilliant performance from his new signings Brian Nkubi and Baker Lukoya. 

After a 8-3 rout of Zai Plaza with four goals from Nkubi, a brace from Benson Ochen and one each from Lukoya and Maxwell Okello, Ayieko warned opponents to watch out as his boys cannot take anything less than the trophy this time round. 

“We have had a deliberate recruitment for the Beach Soccer League. And I’m happy we have started (second round) on a high note. We shall not relax until the end of the season,” Ayieko said after the win. 

Ayeiko’s confidence appeared to come from defending champions St. Lawrence University’s back-to-back defeats in the league. 

The win propelled MUBS to joint top position in the Hurikken Group table with 23 points and a 23 goal difference, while former leaders and defending champions St. Lawrence dropped to third place. 

After losing their last first round match and their top striker Nkubi, St. Lawrence went down 5-2 to Makerere University on Sunday. 

In the Monsoon Group, Stomers maintained their lead with a 5-3 win over KIU. The result widened the gap between Stomers (18 points) and second placed Kira Young (4), who failed turn up without explanation. 

Despite fewer goals scored on Day One of the second round, the matches were more competitive yielding one of the lowest score margins of 54 goals in an outing. 

The usual glamour, normally injected by sponsors Pepsi, was also lacking as the beverage company were reportedly not ready for the kick-off.
