Buganda kingdom has welcomed with joy the news of the birth of a baby boy to Prince David Wasajja, the younger brother of Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II.

The baby boy has been named Prince Edward Mbogo, in memory of his late great grandfather Sir Edward Mutesa II and Nuuhu Mbogo, a renowned Buganda Prince and leader of Islam in Buganda. Mbogo was Kabaka Mwanga’s brother.

The Katikkiro Charles Peter Mayiga Monday visited the Prince at Nakasero Hospital where he was born on Saturday and donated gifts to the parents, Prince Wasajja and wife Marion Nankya.

“Buganda celebrates the news of the birth of the Prince. The strength of the kingdom derives from the royal lineage, it is a great joy to Buganda and Uganda at large,” he said.

The couple married in April last year at Rubaga Cathedral and later hosted their guests at Lubiri.

Mayiga said Mbogo was a great name in the history of the kingdom and strengthens the brotherhood between the Mbogo family and the royals.

“Mbogo’s contribution to Buganda kingdom is well known and he was the father of Prince Badru Kakungulu and great grandfather of Prince Kassim Nakibinge,” he said, adding that Edward also brings back memories of Sir Edward Mutesa II, the first President of Uganda and one of the loved kings in Buganda.

The overjoyed Wasajja explained that the Kabaka had asked them to name babies of the royal family after great figures that contributed enormously to the strength of the kingdom.

Mathias Nsubuga, the Member of Parliament for Bukoto South and father of Nankya who also visited the baby congratulated the Kabaka and Buganda at large for getting a new Prince.
