Museveni in Luanda for ICGLR Summit

PRESIDENT Yoweri Museveni is in Luanda, the capital of Angola, to attend the 5th Ordinary Summit of the International Conference of the Great Lakes’ Region (ICGLR)  opened Wednesday at Talatona Conference Centre. 

The member states of the ICGLR are expected to discuss peace, stability and development in the region focusing on the current situation in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), the Central African Republic (CAR) and South Sudan.

The President was last evening received at Feveriero International Airport by the Angolan Minister of Petroleum, Jose Maria Botelho De-Vasconcelos.

President Museveni, who has been the Chairman of the ICGLR, will, during the summit, hand over the mantle of stewardship of the organization to the host President Jose Eduardo Dos Santos of the Republic of Angola. 

Other leaders of the ICGLR who have are already in Luanda for the one day summit include Presidents Uhuru Kenyatta of Kenya, Paul Kagame of Rwanda, Pierre Nkurunziza of Burundi and Jacob Zuma of South Africa. President Omar Bashir of Sudan is represented at the summit by his Vice President, Hassabo Abdul-Rahaman while the leader of Zambia is also represented by his Vice President.  

The host President, Eduardo Dos Santos hosted his guests to dinner last night where they were accorded the typical African welcome by various local artists. 

ICGLR member states include Angola, Burundi, Central African Republic, the Republic of Congo, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Sudan, South Sudan, Tanzania and Zambia.
