ON their day, Uganda can match anyone at the ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifier.

In fact, in their final warm-up match for the ten-team tourney that starts tomorrow in New Zealand, Uganda thrashed one of the favourites. Hamza Saleh hammered a blistering 79 and Abraham Mutyagaba added his third half-century in four warm-up matches as Uganda beat Canada by 71 runs at the Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui.

Lawrence Sematimba, skipper Davis Arinaitwe and Patrick Ochan scored 27, 24 and 23 runs respectively for Uganda, who posted an encouraging 245/8 in the first innings.

Opener Roger Mukasa contributed 23 runs to that total, which by his recent standards was a notable return.

Mukasa then claimed 2/13 and Karashani took 2/25 as Uganda bowled out Canada for 174 in 45.2 overs.
