KAMPALA – Children in the paediatric department of Mulago hospital received items worth sh3m from Kaana Children’s Foundation.
The items, including sugar, juice, soap, mosquito nets and buckets were part of a Christmas package for Mulago’s sick children.
Nursing officer in charge, Awilo Sara Ayalo, approved of the gesture, saying it was an expression of love.
“There are many people out there with lots of money but cannot help. When patients receive help, they know that people care about them and it increases their hope to live and their chances of healing fast,” she said.
She received the donation from the Chief Administrative Officer of Kaana Children’s Foundation, Vincent Nsubuga.
The nurse mentioned that it could seem a small donation, but that to the patients, “it is a big miracle” as it is not a daily opportunity.
One mother of a two-year-old child at the hospital said the contribution had come in handy.
“My son’s face was burned by hot water and we were asked to buy a mosquito net and a clean bucket but God has sent these young men and women to bring help to us,” said the impressed mother.
“We are so grateful.”

Kaana Children’s Foundation, based in Mukono, supports children from needy families with school fees, clothing and also trains and promotes children’s talent.
“We have 120 children between the ages of one and 16,” said Nsubuga.
His wish is that government builds a better children’s hospital so that children receive proper health care.
“We collect clothes and shoes by putting baskets at universities, after which we sort out the good ones. We also get some clothes from Ugandans abroad.”
