Kawolo hospital gets blood testing equipment

Kawolo Hospital has received blood testing machines worth 20,000 pounds (approximately sh82m).

The machines which included blood oxygenators and blood sampling machines were donated by the UK based Ugandan duo commonly known as Da Twins through their Ganda Boys Foundation.

During the hand over ceremony on Friday, the Buikwe Woman MP, Dorothy Mpiima said the machines will help ease the work at the hospital especially by complementing the few staff availability and under funding at the hospital.

“Everyone should take it upon themselves to carry out such deeds since anyone can be a patient of this hospital,” Mpiima said.

She hailed the benevolent spontaneous support the foundation has been extending since 2008 to ensure swift running of the hospital and promised to also continue lobbing for the hospital amidst parliamentary holdings.

Receiving the machines on behalf of the hospital, one of the administrators, Haruna Wamala, observed a number of challenges which among others included under staffing, lack of piped water for about two years now, and absence of working equipment like the x-ray machine.

“The hospital is supposed to have 11 doctors in total yet we are having only three staff doctors currently,” Wamala said.

“This therefore means that the ratio of doctor to patient attendance is 1:66,” he added.

Denis Mugagga, one of the directors of the foundation, pledged for continued routing for the hospital’s enrichment through providing an exchange system by installing office lines and internet to ease communication around the hospital.

“The problems may be many but we shall do what we can,” Mugagga said.

He also urged other artistes to take it upon themselves and carry out such awareness instead of making endless appearances to clubs and bars yet there are corrosive issues to address in the country.

Kawolo hospital has been on the bench for necessary renovations and equipping ever since the Spanish swap was made as Uganda had to sacrifice the donation given to the hospital and instead pay back the debt it owed to the Spanish government.

The hospital administration is accepting the equipment as a Santa gift pack and looking forward to a better service delivery.
