We only fear South Africa-Uganda

Uganda women cricket team captain Naome Kayondo has said that they are ready to give South Africa a challenge, when they meet in the six nation Africa Women Cricket Cup T-20 action at the coastal city of Dar Es Salaam, December 14-16.

Uganda women cricket team captain Naome Kayondo has said that they are ready to give South Africa a challenge, when they meet in the six nation Africa Women Cricket Cup  T-20 action at the coastal city of Dar Es Salaam, December 14-16
.

They will be looking at emulating their junior counterparts, who have just won the Africa U-19 women cricket championships at the same venue.

“We know South Africa is far above us but we are going to compete and not to participate. We are looking at taking them on,” said Kayondo after she got the national flag from National Council of Sports general secretary Jasper Aligawesa.

Aligawesa had advised the players to keep together and be disciplined as that is the pinnacle of success.

“We are going to play as a team and we are targeting at most a second place at the competition,” he added.

Uganda will be competing against, Kenya, Tanzania, Namibia, South Africa and Zimbabwe and will be looking at improving on their third place finish at last year’s women World Cup qualifier matches. The team is set to fly out of the country Friday morning and returns Tuesday.

The team has : Naome Kayondo (Captain) Barbra Mukankusi, Franklyn Najjumba, Gloria Adubu, Gertrude Chandiru, Laker Flavia, Mary Nankinga, Aryemo Christine, Carol Namugenyi, Kevin Apio, Justine Musubika, Prico Nakitende, Damalie Busingye and Rachael Ntono with Davis Turinawe as a coach, Ritah Tinka (Manager) and Martin Ondeko as  head of delegation.
