Electoral Commission (EC) boss Badru Kiggundu has said he will not resign or leave Uganda over baseless claims that his commission is not independent.

“I resign on what ground? If there is a problem, a problem takes a human mind to solve. Let’s get on a round table to discuss the issues. Don’t ask me to resign,” he said on while opening the Uganda Youth Network Camp in Mbarara district.

Patrick Orema, the national leader of the Uganda People’s Congress, had asked him to resign, saying the public haS a negative perception of the EC.

Orema told Kiggundu that six parties had pulled out the 2016 polls because they think the EC is biased.

Kiggundu said six political parties out of over 36 in the country pulling out of the polls does not affect the progress of the country.

Citing an example in 2005, Kiggundu said no one influences his decision.

He said he was advised by a Government official not to nominate Col. Kizza Besigye because he was in prison but he went ahead and did so.
