Mutebile voted best governor in Africa

Bank of Uganda Governor Prof. Emmanuel Mutebile has received the Africa Investor Group Award as the best Central Bank Governor of the year 2013 for his efforts in stabilising prices and steering the economy from turbulent times.

Bank of Uganda Governor Prof. Emmanuel Mutebile has received the Africa Investor Group Award as the best Central Bank Governor of the year 2013 for his efforts in stabilising prices and steering the economy from turbulent times.

Mutebile received the award at the annual International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank Group meeting in Washington, US.

He was singled out as one of the key architects behind Uganda’s economic achievements and for his exemplary track record over the past years.

Louis Kasekende, the Central Bank deputy governor, noted that the award provides international recognition of the work done by the Central Bank in fostering price stability and a sound financial system under the stewardship of Mutebile.

The Africa Investor Awards are associated with the World Bank Group, the International Finance Corporation and the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA).

The awards recognise institutions and individuals improving Africa’s investment profile through exceptional business practices, economic achievements and investments across the continent.

“The continents investment profile has seen a historic turnaround in the last 12 months and the pursuits of the short listed candidates and winners of the these investment and leadership awards have been instrumental in improving practices that have resulted in increased confidence in Africa as a competitive international investment destination,” said Hubert Danso, the Africa Investor Group boss. Mutebile was also named best Central Bank Governor in Africa for the year 2011 at the annual Banker awards in Washington.

The accolades are proof of growing international confidence in Uganda’s economy.
