24-year-old woman in Maracha district was last week detained by police for burying her newly born child in a shallow grave shortly after delivery.

Vicky Letaru, a resident of Yokolemada village, Amanipi parish in Yivu sub-county was surrendered by her relatives to the police in Maracha central police station at 6:00pm on Wednesday after exhuming the baby alive from the shallow hole.

According to Dick Abima, a neighbor who led the operation to rescue the helpless child, residents became suspicious after discovering stains of blood on the road and tried to establish what had happened.

The OC criminal Investigation Department (CID) officer for Maracha district Moses Diku said the child was brought to their office on Wednesday and they immediately took both the child and mother for treatment at Maracha hospital. Details of this story in tomorrow’s New Vision.
