Unilever launches Nationwide Blue band Schools'' Puzzle Challenge

Kampala, Uganda – 24th September 2013 – Unilever Uganda Limited today officially announced the start of the “Blue Band Schools’ Puzzle Challenge”


Kampala, Uganda – 24th September 2013 – Unilever Uganda Limited today officially announced the start of the “Blue Band Schools’ Puzzle Challenge”. Kicking off the campaign at Kampala Parents School was the celebrity mom Keturah Kamugasa Unilever Marketing Manager, Diana Nabukenya.

The challenge is part of Blue Band’s ongoing campaign to educate consumers and children on optimal nutrition, as well as the importance of spreading Blue Band on every slice of bread as it contains fats and vitamins that kids need to grow.

A unique 500 piece puzzle entirely devoted to nutrition will be distributed to over 700 schools countrywide. Schools will be competing to complete the highest number of puzzles through their students collecting puzzle tokens which will be available in under the label lid of special promotional packs of Blue Band.  Each child shall also be issued with an information booklet with the brand’s call to action and nutritional information.

Making the announcement Unilever Marketing Manager, Diana Nabukenya said: “We want to get primary school students to learn about nutrition issues in an engaging and fun way and to learn from each other. The challenge was developed to make learning an interactive and enjoyable experience for students utilizing the puzzle as a way for students to talk to other students, their parents, and teachers about proper nutrition and continue the dialogue about healthy eating.”

The host of the event, Mrs Daphne Katto who is the Principal of Kampala Parents School thanked Unilever for its efforts to raise awareness about nutrition and in engaging parents and youth to take an interest in their health saying: “We must engage students in the process and give them the knowledge and experiences to make their own healthy choices.”

The campaign was also championed by celebrity mother and media  personality Keturah Kamugasa who added: “The importance of teaching our children and giving them energy cannot be understated, in terms of both the quality of what they eat and nutrition level. I am happy to see Blue Band engage with parents, students and schools in such an imaginative way.”

At the end of the challenge in December the National Grand Prize of a 37 seater school bus will be awarded to the school with the highest number of completed puzzles.

Grand Student Prize for the top 2 students nationally with the highest number of tokens collected will win a fantastic all expenses paid trip to the world famous Disneyland in California.

In addition, the national campaign will award the top 3 schools per region that have the highest number of completed puzzles by supporting a school project.
•    1st Prize - School project worth 9M UGS
•    2nd Prize - School project worth  6M UGS                
•    3rd Prize - School project worth 3M UGS             

Encouraging participation the top 3 kids per region who bring in the highest number of puzzle tokens to their schools will receive a voucher put towards their school fees.
•    1st Prize - School Fees Voucher worth  900,000 UGS
•    2nd Prize - Schools Fees Voucher worth 600,000 UGS
•    3rd  Prize - School Fees Voucher worth 300,000 UGS

The best teacher champions for the campaign per region will also be rewarded for their efforts.
•    1st Prize -  1.5M UGS
•    2nd Prize - 900,000 UGS
•    3rd Prize - 600,000 UGS

As the campaign rolls out nation-wide, Unilever will be visiting schools around the country to activate the challenge regionally.
