KILEMBE Golf Club’s Happy Robert was in fine form over the weekend returning a gross score of 150 over two days to win the 4th edition of the Hima Open at the Kilembe Mines Golf Club on Saturday.
The handicap 1 golfer staved off stiff competition from Toro Golf Club’s Ronald Rugumayo and Adolf Muhumuza to win the two day tournament.
Happy beat his nearest challenger Toro Golf Club’s Adolf Muhumuza by a stroke to claim the top prizes of a driver R1, four bags of cement and a trophy in the sh18m sponsored stroke play full handicap event.
“I was at home so I did what was expected of me. My chipping and putting were also spot on and the course was in fine condition. The greens were also in fine shape since we are in the rainy season,” Happy said.
Toro golfers who had hitherto dominated the event for the past two years took the next three top spots with Adolf Muhumuza Ronald Rugumayo and Joseph Cwinyai finishing second, third and fourth respectively.
Over 100 golfers from the western region and Hima staff took part in the event which according to Hima Cement Plant manager Peter Robson gives them an opportunity to interact with the community there and the region through the beautiful game of golf.
“Supporting the sport of golf is an integral part of our sponsorship plan and provides us with an opportunity to contribute to the development of Golf in the region and the country at large,” Robson said.
Meanwhile going by current form Flavia Namakula, Gloria Mbaguta, Harriet Kitaka and Irene Nakalembe will be the ladies to watch as the three-day Uganda ladies open tees off on Thursday at Entebbe club.
