Forum for Democratic Party (FDC) president Gen. Mugisha Muntu has highlighted the need to build cohesion and working together with all other opposition forces, individuals and civil society organizations, to cause regime change.

"We have to create a common front as the opposition; we don't have the money and neither do we have the army on our side but our capacity to work together is a lethal weapon that will build a momentum against president Museveni and he will give way," Muntu said.

Muntu made the remarks during an engagement with the FDC delegates from North and East Buganda in Bweyogerere, Wakiso district recently.

Muntu was in Buganda seeking support for his election as the party presidential flag-bearer to contest in the 2016 general elections.

Muntu noted that once the opposition continues to build capacity and engaging each other and ensuring that one message is being communicated time and again, nothing will fail them to realize the anticipated change.

"Both our party and The Democratic Alliance (TDA) carry the word 'democratic' in their names. To us it is not a word.
It is a principle to which we are totally committed that it is at the centre of everything we do. That why we have been very active partners in the fight for free and fair elections," he explained.

He noted that the current regime has deepened an anti-democratic culture of personalized rule that makes it difficult for many to understand that healthy competition is possible and necessary.

"We shall continue our active participation in this fight as FDC. Our resolve to pursue the struggle for electoral reforms to create a genuinely level political ground will continue its logical conclusion, even as we engage in the current electoral processes," Muntu stressed.

Muntu, who is contesting against the former party president Dr. Kizza Besigye for the position of party flag-bearer, told delegates that FDC will continue to practice genuine democracy.

"I am very happy that we are having a serious competition where you the delegates will choose between different visions, approaches and strategies," Muntu said.

He told the delegates that Uganda needs a leader who says what he means and means what he says.

"That is why I am seeking your support to be the FDC's presidential flag bearer for 2016 elections. I have no doubt that I can do it and, by God's grace, do it exceedingly well," Muntu said.
