Motocross names 29 for Africa Championship

The motocross team will travel to Zimbabwe for the FIM Africa motocross championship despite the Federation''s lack of funds, FMU President has said.

The motocross team will travel to Zimbabwe for the FIM Africa motocross championship despite the Federation's lack of funds, FMU President has said.

Jack Wavamunno told the media in a press briefing at Old Kampala Secondary School where a team of 29 riders was named.The event starts on August 28-30.

"Yes we are in a deficit of $15,000 approximately sh53m to take a full team to Zimbabwe but I assure you that we are doing all it takes to have a full team on board," Wavamunno stated.

"I'm confident we can win this event because we won it in 2012 at Busiika."

He also lauded the Old Kampala SS head teacher Aziida Nsubuga for accommodating motocross on the school grounds.

Nsubuga committed the school's support to motorsport saying that Old Kampala has a rich history in sports.

"Some of these riders are our students, so we are delighted to have motocross on our grounds," Nsubuga stated.

Team captain Maxime Van Pee urged the public to support them because his team is capable of getting a podium finish.

He added that all Bikes will be traveling by road to Zimbabwe on Monday courtesy of Patrick Van Pee sponsorship.

The team includes, Maxime Van Pee, Ashraf Ndikulwange, Huud Ssemugooma, Talha Kiggundu (MX1), Ali Omar, Yasin Kasirye, Fatuh Kiggundu, Muslim Zziwa, Ronald Opio, Shafique Ssekitto, Ashraf Mbabazi and Moses Lutwama (MX2).

Others are ,Alon Orland,Amina  Zawedde,Ashi Junior,Mubarak Mayanja,Ryan Aruho,Milton Akaki,Stav Orland,Danny Kyambadde, Waleed Omar, Arnold Nyanzi, Malcom Omoding, Wazir Omar, Aviv Orland,Muzamiru Sajjabi,Ben Nsumba  and Fortune Ssentamu.
