Four killed in Mpigi accident

Four people died and 12 others sustained serious injuries Tuesday evening in an accident involving an Isuzu lorry, registration number UAT 230Z and a commuter taxi, registration number UAW 975Q on the Kampala – Masaka road.

Four people died and 12 others sustained serious injuries Tuesday evening in an accident involving an Isuzu lorry, registration number UAT 230Z and a commuter taxi, registration number UAW 975Q on the Kampala – Masaka road.


The accident occurred at Mpanga in Mpigi, a liated black spot.

According to Katonga regional police commander, Hadijah Namutebi, the accident was as a result of the slippery road surface which was wet following an afternoon shower.

She identified the deceased as Hussein Namuyimba, the driver of the Isuzu truck and resident of Kirimya in Masaka district; Saaka SSemugenyi, the taxi driver and a resident of Lwengo district.

Others were Patrick Lukwago, a resident of Nabusanke in Mpigi district and a yet unidentified male adult.
 
Those injured were all passengers in the taxi that was heading to Kiruhura district and they included Cissy Nakato, Asuman Byamukama, John Mbaziira, John Mubangizi, Samulah Mwanje, Charllote Ninsiima, Daniel Tumuhayiswe, Patrick Gumisiriza, Juliet Nankinga, Gerald Ampomgisha and a 2-year old female toddler.
 
These were rushed to Mpigi health center IV where they received first aid and later transferred to Mulago Hospital in critical condition.
 
According to the doctors who attended to the victims, these sustained serious injuries, some with broken body parts and could only receive treatment at Mulago hospital.
