Kampala Archdiocese on Sunday installed Fr Denis Kizito Ssebunnya, the Parish priest of Ggoli Parish as the second Episcopal Vicar of Mitala-Maria Vicariate

Kampala Archdiocese on Sunday installed Fr Denis Kizito Ssebunnya, the Parish priest of Ggoli Parish as the second Episcopal Vicar of Mitala-Maria Vicariate.

He succeeds Msgr Charles Kato Katongole, who has been the first Vicariate’s Vicar.

The Archbishop of Kampala, Dr Cyprian Kizito Lwanga, presided over the occasion, assisted by Msgr John Wynand Katende, Silveris  Jjumba and several other priests who hail from Ggoli parish.

The colorful function was marked by Holy mass that was led by Dr Lwanga in the precincts of Our Lady Immaculate Heart of Mary Church.

In his homily, Archbishop, Dr Lwanga said that Kampala being a large Archdiocese with a large number of Christians, it was necessary to divide it into four Vicariates namely Wakiso, Entebbe, Kampala and Mitala-Maria.

“To have a Vicar brings another step closer to enlivening and enriching our archdiocese,” Archbishop Lwanga said.

He added: “I am grateful to all those who are making every effort to cooperate with surrounding parishes, whether in mergers, linkages or partnerships as we move forward together to do the work of evangelization in the name of Jesus Christ,” he said.

Lwanga however expressed concern over the rampant cases of violence in the families. He also expressed dismay over poverty, sickness, increasing acts of witchcrafts and sexual pervasion.

He advised christians to be at peace with one another and to avoid actions that may cause breach of the peace in their various communities and Parishes.

Lwanga tasked parents to be vigilant in build firm foundations for their families to enable their children grow into good citizens. During the occasion over 300 children received their first their communion.

He also urged parishes to be accountable and exhibit transparency in whatever they do. He also thanked the former Vicar Msgr Kato for the good work he did since he was chosen to be the first Vicar of Vicariate, a post he
diligently held for eight years. He requested the Christians to assist the new Vicar so that the vicariate continues to develop.



Fr Kizito Ssebunnya thanked the parishioners for the good work they are doing and he promised to work with them. He called upon the Christians to pray and assist him in his new office by working together for the development of the Vicariate.

Former FUFA president Lawrence Mulindwa was the chief guest. The other dignitaries included former Buganda ministers Jolly Lutaaya and Florence Nakiwala Kiyingi.

The others included Buganda State minister for Local Government Joseph Kawuki who represented the Katikkiro, Charles Peter Mayigga.

Kawuki urged parents to protect their children against sports betting, which he said has adverse effects like impoverishing those who participate in it especially the youth.

Mulindwa who hails from the same parish thanked Archbishop Lwanga for choosing Fr Ssebunnya whom he described as  hard working. He donated sh15m towards the construction of a multi complex building in commemoration of St Yakobo Buuza- abalyawo.

Many Schools, parishioners from different Sub-Parishes contributed money and construction materials towards the project.

Democratic Party President Norbert Mao contributed sh3m. Managing director of Angenoir Club,Charles Lubega contribute 100 bags of cement.

The fourth Vicariate in Kampala Archdiocese has eleven parishes including Katende, Kkonge, Mpigi, Muduuma, Mitala-Maria, Nkozi, Bulo, Gombe, Kibanga, Kitakyusa, Kankobe and Ggoli itself is located along Masaka road in Mpigi district.
