Bodaboda registration delayed for more talks

To allow more dialogue, Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) has postponed the registration of commuter motorcycles (bodabodas) in the city.

The development follows demands from bodaboda operators and other stake holders, who insist that proper documentation of people and vehicles involved in the business should be done after consultations, training and sensitisation of mainly the riders.

Sensitisation is underway in various parts of the city in sessions conducted by KCCA, traffic Police and the leaders of bodaboda associations in the five divisions of the city.

The spokesperson of KCCA, Peter Kaujju, said the exercise has since been extended to October 10.

He, however, said registration of corporate and private motorcycles continues at the KCCA offices until September 30.

According to Kaujju, the management of the authority unanimously agreed to postpone the registration of bodabodas after consultations with different stakeholders such as bodaboda operators, Uganda Revenue Authority, the Police and KCCA was done.

“KCCA has continued with the registration of corporate and private motorcycles. Thereafter the registration of bodabodas will start,” Kaujju said.

The Minister for Kampala, Frank Tumwebaze, had earlier this week directed that the exercise kicks off on Monday (September 23), but it was agreed that the exercise be postponed.

Last month, KCCA unveiled a plan to register bodabodas in the city.
