Uganda Christian University (UCU) was founded in October 1997 by the Church of Uganda in response to the call for quality higher education in Uganda, especially from a Christian perspective. UCU was the first private, charted university in Uganda. The university’s main campus is located in Mukono, 23kms from the city, Kampala.
UCU has a constituent college, Bishop Barham University College based in Kabale, and other campuses at Kampala, Arua, and Mbale. Uganda Christian University is dedicated through teaching scholarships, service, and spiritual formation, student development and social involvement to the preparation of students for a thoughtful, productive lives of Christian faith and service in their respective professions and places.

Today, UCU will officially commission its Kampala Campus on Lubiri Ring road, Mengo in a bid to turn the institution into a federal university with all its constitution branches in the country. The Kampala campus is approximately two kilometres from the city centre, easily accessed from all the corners of the city.
