Police visit Guvnor nightclub after deadly incident

A team of police officers visit famous Kampala night spot, Guvnor after Saturday night's deadly incident there.


KAMPALA – A team of police officers on Monday visited famous Kampala night spot, Guvnor in Industrial Area, hardly two days after a deadly incident played out there.

In the Saturday late night/Sunday early morning scenario, a regular at the club was fatally stabbed with a broken glass in the neck by another.

The victim, Johnnie Ahimbisibwe aka Johnnie Danzel Jarmaine, died of his wounds upon arrival at Case Medical Center, where efforts to revive him proved futile.

Guvnor proprietor Charlie Lubega took the police team around the club and he was seen talking to Benjamin Namanya, the Commissioner Kampala Metropolitan Police.

According to a statement released by the club after the incident, Johnnie was attacked by a one Ivan Kamyuka aka Ivan Diesel "Iyvo".

The attacker was dating Johnnie’s ex-girlfriend by the time of the incident, the statement, which circulated around social media, said.

The club “strongly” condemned the act, and any other such incidents.

“Guvnor night club strongly condemns such acts of violence and will pursue justice to its final end. We at Guvnor are truly saddened by this sudden loss as Johnnie was one of our regular and loved clients,” read the missive in part.

The night club also said Kamyuka was immediately arrested by the club’s security team and handed over to Jinja Road Police Station.

The exact events that led to the deadly attack are not known.

Johnnie was still alive moments after he was attacked and, according the club’s missive, he responded to questions as he was being rushed to the health facility.

“On the way to hospital, Johnnie was responsive to questions asked by one of our managers Bobman,” read the information.

“On arrival at Case Medical Center, he was examined by Dr. Masika and despite resuscitation was pronounced dead.”
