Geoffrey Massa announced his return to the South Africa domestic league in remarkable fashion after scoring a wonder free-kick to earn University of Pretoria a 2-0 win over Bloemfontein Celtic on Saturday.

Massa, whose services were desperately missed during Uganda Cranes’ 1-0 defeat to Senegal in a decisive 2014 World Cup qualifier last week under dubious circumstances, was one of three debutantes involved in the ABSA Premiership game.

Atusaye Nyondo helped the Tuks to the lead in the 16th minute through Nyondo, before the stage was left for Massa.

The 27-year-old doubled the home side’s lead with a fierce free-kick two minutes later – an excellent effort that left Celtic goalkeeper Patrick Tignyemb stranded in goal.

Massa late stated: “It felt great scoring in my first game. I hope to score a lot more for the club. I feel at home. We are a family here and work for each other. The coach (Steve Barker) has helped me settle in and I am greatly for that.” Cranes goalkeeper Denis Onyango stated:

“Well done Massa u have shown them that you are still one of the top strikers in the country. Great goal on your first game for the club.”
