Nakawa Chief Magistrate will on August 31 rule on whether the five Kasokoso leaders accused of attempted murder of the Kira Town Council mayor, Mamerito Mugerwa, have a case to answer.

This was after the last prosecution witness, Corporal Samuel Oyat attached to Kireka police station testified in the matter. He was also the investigating officer.

Oyat told court presided over by Chief Magistrate, Flavia Nassuna, that the accused stripped Mamerito, beat him up using plastic chairs and later were joined by the angry mob.

As a result, Mamerito was admitted to Kampala International Hospital in critical condition.

This was during a fracas that ensued when National Housing and Construction Company wanted to clear the boundaries of its land at Kasokoso village which was misunderstood by the residents as being evicted from their land and later turned violent.

Mamerito had visited them in an attempt to talk to them over the land wrangles in the area; unfortunately they suspected him to have been on mission to evict them from the land.

The accused are: David Ssekiziyivu a councilor Kireka Zone C, David Mugalya an LC1 chairman Kasokoso village, Hajji Musa Sewagudde, Jude Kaboggoza a secretary for mobilization of Kasokoso and Umar Muyanja.

They face two counts of attempted murder and burning of the Kira Town Council motor vehicle.

Prosecution alleges that the suspects and others still at large, on November 5, 2013 at Kasokoso village Kireka Parish Kiira Town Council, Wakiso district unlawfully attempted to cause the death of Mamerito.
