Tooro in high gear for 'Empango' fete

The Kingdom of Tooro is in preparations ahead of King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru's 20th coronation anniversary celebrations.

The Kingdom of Tooro is in preparations ahead of King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru's 20th coronation anniversary celebrations.


The event locally known as "Empango" is scheduled to take place on September 12, 2015 at Karuziika Palace, in Fort Portal town.

King Oyo was born on April 16, 1992 to King Patrick David Mathew Kaboyo Olimi III and Queen Best Kemigisa.

He ascended to the throne at three and a half years shortly after his father passed on. He is the 12th King of Tooro Kingdom.

The kingdom's prime minister, Bernard Tungakwo Ateenyi said preparations are in high gear.

According to Tungakwo, this year's anniversary is special because the Kingdom will be marking two decades since Omukama Oyo was enthroned as King.

This year's event will be celebrated under the theme; 'Uniting to utilize natural resources to enhance wealth creation in a bid to improve people's welfare in conjunction with central government'.

Tungukwo said the kingdom is to engage in a series of activities which to run in all the five districts which make the current Kingdom structure.

The districts include; Kyenjojo, Kabarole, Ntoroko, Kamwenge and Kyegegwa.

The activities comprise of health camps and nutrition week, inter clan football competition, fitness walk, music extravaganza (Kasiki), tree planting and an exhibition among others.

Tungakwo said President Yoweri Museveni is expected to be the guest of honour. Others dignitaries expected to attend include; cultural leaders from different cultural institutions, political leaders, religious leaders and other distinguished guests.

He said they still partnerships and support from companies and individuals to make it a success.
