Another failure leaves Kitatta dejected

DISTURBED by the Uganda Golf Open jinx, Willy Kitatta has sworn never to compete in the tournament again.

Kitatta who has in the previous two editions of the prestigious tournament lost out on the last day, expected last weekend’s tournament in Entebbe to go his way.

In 2011 he was beaten by Rogers Byaruhanga, last year he fell to Phillip Kasozi and this time he even finished third in the event won by Peter Ssendawula.

“I have to accept that the Uganda Open is not my tournament. Whether I will be an amateur or professional, I will just stay away from it. The pain of failing to win is just too much. If I insist on competing in the Uganda Open I could end up losing interest in the sport,” Kitatta lamented in an interview.

The Entebbe based golfer who has been dominating local events and made the final of the Kenya Match-play Championship mid-season, described his continuous failure to win the event as “very embarrassing.”

“I started the final round just two strokes behind the eventual winner but I instead scored 81 on a day I should have played my best game. I don’t even recall when I last had such an embarrassing score,” a distressed Kitatta fumed.

Ssendawula argued that Kitatta will recover from the disappointment.

“In golf there are good and bad days. With time he will calm down and forget about all that. He is a fantastic golfer that we would love to be around,” Ssendawula stated.
