Nakawa Magistrate’s Court has committed business woman Jacqueline Uwera Nsenga, accused of unlawfully causing the death of her husband, Juvenile Nsenga to Nakawa High Court for trial.

Presiding over the case, chief Magistrate Sylvia Nabbagala Tuesday afternoon committed Uwera on grounds that inquiries in the case were complete and committal papers had been prepared for the purpose of sending her to the High Court in the next convenient trial session.

State prosecutor Proscovia Ayebale however informed court that the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) wants the accused person convicted based on evidence from the post-mortem report, engineer’s report of a technical assessment of the motor vehicle impact on Plot 6 gate, Uganda Police Vehicle Inspection report, Government Analyst report, sketch plan and Crime Scene Examination report.

“The accused person has no valid evidence or lawful excuse to the present charge. I therefore pray that this honourable trial court convicts her of the present offence as indicted,” Ayebale added.

According to post-mortem report, the deceased injuries were extremely grave and severe in nature. This includes abrasions on the anterior tibia and the right knee and along the epigastric area, major linear abrasions all over his body, contused anterior chest muscle and bilateral rib fractures.

Prosecution claims that the marriage between the couple had become quiet turbulent and the accused had on several occasions issued specific and general threats against her late husband.

The deep-seated animosity spilt over to other family members including all her in-laws and Uwera rebuffed efforts by friends and relatives geared at reconciling her with the late husband in vain.

Prosecution further alleges that on January 10, 2013 the accused returned home at around 9:00pm, parked her vehicle Reg. N0. UAL 933M outside the main gate and pressed the bell.

In response, her late husband walked toward the gate and opened for his wife to effect entry but the accused instead accelerated her vehicle, rammed through the gate and knocked him down and dragged him for a considerable distance along the concrete pavement.

A few minutes after the accused’s case was committed, she was produced before Nakawa High Court Judge Wilson Masalu-Musene who read the charges to her and she pleaded not guilty.

The trial judge fixed October, 7, 2013 when the trial of Uwera will start.

Uwera was apprehended from her home of residence on February, 2 and kept in police custody until July, 15 when she was arraigned in court, charged with the offence of murder and remanded to Luzira prison.

It is alleged that Uwera on January, 10, 2013 at plot 6, Muzindalo Road Bugolobi, a Kampala suburb, unlawfully caused the death of one Nsenga Juvenile.
