THE former Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party president, Dr Kizza Besigye has said the opposition stands a good chance of defeating President Yoweri Museveni and NRM in the coming general elections.

Besigye said by Museveni recently falling-out with key elements in NRM like Amama Mbabazi, Gen David Sejusa and former vice president Gilbert Bukenya, he has become a weaker opponent.

“Even before we reach him, he is already battling with his own in a very fierce manner, Bukenya, Mbabazi and the Sejusas are all helping us weaken our opponent and it’s not only those, they are many,” Besigye said.

Besigye who has been defeated by Museveni in the last three elections was addressing a press conference at Elgon FDC offices in Mbale Senior Quarters.

He claimed that many NRM strongholds have lost patience with Museveni, a reason they are slowly abandoning him.

Besigye however hinted that for opposition to win the upcoming polls, Ugandans have to demand for electoral reforms which will ensure free and fair elections.

“The environment has also been changing, many Ugandans must get involved in causing fundamental change, my role in this one is to organize citizens to understand their responsibility,” he stressed.

Besigye is in Mbale to converse support as he vies against FDC party president Gen. Mugisha Muntu for party flag bearer ahead of 2016 general elections.

Besigye also held a closed-door meeting with FDC Bugisu region delegates.
