“This is a very good uniform. When the opponents see us, they will be amazed, they cannot do anything.”

Those were the words of appreciation from Uganda Special Olympics athlete Charles Okello after Korea International Development Agency (KOICA) donated sports kit to the team yesterday.

The kit worth $15,000 (about sh54m) was handed over by the Republic of Korea ambassador Park Jung-Dae at Lugogo.

The donation is a boost to the Uganda Special Olympics team set for the World Summer Special Olympics Games due this month July 19 to August 3 in Los Angeles, California.

Uganda will be represented by a team of 24 athletes in football, athletics, unified volleyball and swimming.

Okello promised better results from California. “I am overwhelmed. I am full of joy. We believe in ourselves and we shall hit the target,” he said.

While handing the kit, ambassador Jung-Da said the donation officially launches close collaboration between Uganda and Korea.

“I wish you well. You must do better since you have a good track record in Special Olympics,” said the ambassador.

Besides the kit and another donation of $5,000 (sh18m) in cash, KOICA also sponsored team of volunteers from Korea that has been training the national team for the past one month at Lugogo.

Special Olympics Uganda director Claire Wavamunno hailed the offer as a big morale boost to the team.
