Eddy Kenzo’s winning of the prestigious Black Entertainment Television (BET) award took the country by storm and this was brought to light Tuesday as hundreds of his fans gathered at Entebbe international airport to welcome him as he returned to the country.

By noon, the overly excited fans had already gathered at Shell petrol station in Makindye; ready to head to Entebbe and give the 'Sitya Loss' star a hero’s welcome to a country he made proud by becoming the first ever East African musician to claim the award.

Expecting Kenzo to arrive around 1:30pm local time, the fans went in a procession to Entebbe, making all kinds of noises that got almost everyone along Entebbe road rushing to the roadside to have a glimpse of what was happening.

Most of the cars used were branded with Kenzo’s crew name, Big Talent.

After arriving in Entebbe town, the fans kept chanting Kenzo’s name and the entire town joined in; most especially the boda-boda (motorcycle) riders.

After causing enough excitement in the town; which is just a few meters away from the airport, the uncontrollable fans headed straight to the airport where they braved the scorching sun for over an hour and a half before their sensational singer arrived.

Kenzo emerged from the arrivals terminal at exactly 3pm and was quickly mobbed by the uncontrollable fans and for a moment, his name filled the air as the excited fans kept chanting that he is the number one artiste in the region.

The excitement was too much that even the airport security that had been brought in to try and control the crowd lost control of it; eventually letting events unfold as the fans pleased.

This much excitement also denied Rema Namakula (below), Kenzo’s fiancée and fellow artiste the chance to hand him the bouquet of flowers she had prepared to welcome him.

It was time to make their superstar arrive in Kampala a hero. But right after leaving the airport, the uncontrollable crowd brought Entebbe town to a standstill as Kenzo made some stops to wave to all the bystanders that had left their businesses to come witness the hero’s grand entry.

This entire excitement was characterized by driving the cars in a manner so wild and fast to the extent that all the other road users had to get off the road to make way for Kenzo’s entourage.

This episode of the excitement eventually led to one of the Big Talent vehicles; a Regius, registration number UAW674S swerving off the road around Kawuku and hitting a nearby perimeter wall before ending up on a tree in the compound of one of the road side residences.

Fortunately, all the passengers in the vehicle escaped with just minor injuries.

The rest of the fans headed to Kampala but everywhere they passed, they brought business to a standstill as everyone along Entebbe road desired to set their eyes on the man that has raised the bar of Uganda’s music industry to a much higher level.
