At the age of 16 Nsereko tables bread for his family

Growing up in the slums of Kinawataka, Godfrey Nsereko was introduced to child labour at an early age that when you meet him today, he reasons like adults in terms of business

Seeing how his mother struggled to win bread for the family, Nsereko decided to join her in the struggle to win bread for the rest of the family members.

When he turned 15, he asked his mother to rest and took full responsibility of the family.

He decided to shift from Kinawakata to Seeta so that they start a new life there.

Good enough their capital had accumulated to sh400,000. With which they rented a house of sh50000.

Nsereko had to use the rest of the money to start up a small business of selling fruits on the road side.

After one year, Nsereko’s capital had grown to sh700,000 which to him, was good enough to start up another business.

He ventured into selling ingredients that mix animal and chicken feeds even though he had no idea of the formula’s but he knew very many people rear pigs and chicken so he would definitely make money.

“Fruits go bad and the losses are so many but with ingredients for animal and poultry feeds, I am sure of the profits,” said Nsereko.

Achievements

Nsereko says with this business, he pays school fees for himself and his siblings coupled with paying his family’s monthly rent.

He adds that life has changed since getting what to eat is not as hard as it was in the past.

How he juggles school and business

Nsereko goes to Paul Mukasa Secondary school in Mukono and whenever he is not in having lessons, he stays and attends to his business.

He is in senior three and when he is away for school, he closes his business and concentrates on his academics.

He has partnered with Kasawo quality breeders of Kuroiler birds to also sell these birds to his clients which have really boosted his business.

Challenges

Some customers come asking for a formula and he does not know. Many go away but those who know the quality of his ingredients stay and support him.
