Jamaican dancehall musicians — Konshens and Alaine — arrive in the country tonight ahead of their Friday concert at the Lugogo Cricket Oval.
Konshens, real name Garfield Spence, will be the first to arrive at 10:00pm aboard a Turkish Airlines flight, while Alaine Laughton will jet in four hours later.
“The two artistes are so excited about performing for the Ugandan crowds,” said Davis Lukwago of Llolypop, the concert promoters.
While in Kampala, Konshens (right) will launch a book drive to the students of Kololo Senior Secondary School, where he is expected to donate books and other scholastic materials.
“I want to say thanks to everyone in the US and Jamaica who donated to my book drive for the students of Kololo Senior Secondary in Uganda. I appreciate it, and I know the students will too,” said Konshens in a press release.
Konshens last came to Kampala late last year for a jubilee celebrations concert, which was partly sponsored by Vision Group. He has since talked about the celebration Ugandans accorded him, a thing that influenced his return.
His songs like Gyal a Bubble, Bad Gal, Jah Love Me, Gunshot a Fire, Don’t you Try Con Me, Stop Signs, Do Sumn and Couple Up have received rave reviews on local radio, TV and several entertainment spots. He is expected to wow the crowds with all the above songs and more.
In Uganda for the first time, Alaine’s famous collection includes songs like Nakupenda Pia, Spin Me, All or Nothing and No Ordinary Love.
Concert tickets (sh25,000 for silver and sh75,000 for VIP) go on sale today at various supermarkets.
