KCCA FC overcame Sport Club Victoria University 4-3 on penalties after a pulsating 1-1 draw in normal time at Nakivubo Stadium to win the Super Cup

KCCA FC overcame Sport Club Victoria University 4-3 on penalties after a pulsating 1-1 draw in normal time at Nakivubo Stadium on Friday to win the Super Cup, a precursor to the new league season.

Herman Wasswa gave KCCA the perfect start with a goal in first half. His shot past Benjamin Ochan in goal followed a brilliant assist from new recruit Steven Bengo.  

Uganda Cup holders SCVU clawed their way back into the game with a superb Dennis Iguma header in the second half to send the game to penalties. 

Although KCCA coach George Nsimbe was not impressed with his team’s display new captain Fahad Kawooya was happy to lift the trophy in his first game as skipper.

“We did not play our game well but I’m very happy we won the trophy. It is a good way to start a season,” Kawooya said.

In what turned out to be a dramatic penalty shootout, substitute Tonny Odur attracted catcalls from KCCA fans when he blasted his kick over the crossbar after his attempt to intimidate Ochan in goal and delaying well after the referee's whistle had gone. 

Godfrey Kateregga and Henry Lopidia also missed their spot kicks to hand Nsimbe a positive start to the season. 

KCCA FC won sh1.5m top prize besides the trophy while SCVU settled for sh500,000.
