Details have emerged of an agreement for the return of Buganda Kingdom properties reached weeks ago between President Yoweri Museveni and the Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II.
The return of the properties is being undertaken under the Traditional Rulers (Restoration of Assets and Properties) Act, 1993.
This is the law under which the Government also returned assets like Bulange and the palace at Mengo to the Kabaka in 1993 when the institution of traditional leaders was restored.
According to the copy seen by the New Vision, the agreement was signed between the Government of the Republic of Uganda and the Kabaka of Buganda, Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II.
President Yoweri Museveni signed for the Government while the Kabaka signed “For the Institution of the Kabaka of Buganda.”
The agreement is aimed at developing and expanding co-operation between the Government and the Kabaka through various programmes and projects.
