A milk trader has disarmed a robber and recovered an SMG rifle. The fearless trader, Isma Ssegawa, is a resident of Nyendo town near Masaka.

The incident occurred at 1am on August 11 when Ssegawa was closing his dairy shop at Binyonyi B cell in Nyendo at the time when thugs demanded for money at a gun point.

“I took the risk and grabbed the gun from robber who was very close demanding for money. My wife (Sumayiya Namyalo) helped me to overpower the thug,” he narrated.

Ssegawa said he raised an alarm as the scuffle ensued which attracted the neighbor prompting the thug to give up.

The Southern Regional police Commander, Maxwell Ogwal said the recovered SMG rifle was the one which was last month  robbed from a reserve force officer identified as Sam Ogwang at Maria-Flo  Hotel in Masaka Municipality.

Ogwang, a guard deployed at the Hotel was stabbed to death by the thugs who fled with the gun.

Ogwal told The New Vision that the same rifle was used to gun down another trader identified as Lutaaya Kyaligonza (26) at Villa Maria Trading Centre in Kalungu district on Sunday night.

The body of the deceased was still at the Masaka hospital mortuary by press time.

Ogwal said the rifle which initially had 27 rounds of ammunition at the time when it was robbed at Maria-Hotel was recovered with only one bullet.
