10000m men’s finals (5.55pm)

RONALD Musagala is confident as he takes on some of the most experienced runners when the IAAF World Championships start in Moscow today.

Musagala will be the first Ugandan to compete at 10.30am Ugandan time in Heat 2 of the 800m event.

Musagala, whose first trip outside Uganda was a long 20hr flight which included a 7hr stopover in Dubai, has already shrugged off the jet lag and is focused on advancing to the semi-final.

In what will be his first international race, Musagala is confident.

“My time has come. I am much focused and making my debut at such a big stage will not in any way affect my urge to shine on.”

Musagala’s target is to improve on his personal best time of 1:45.71 and also finish in the top three so that he advances directly to the semi-finals.

Musagala became the first Ugandan to qualify for a major event on the athletics calendar having not competed on the international scene he says this has inspired him to perform better.
