KAMPALA - The Mufti of Uganda, Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubaje appealed to Muslims to maintain the good behaviors they have been exhibiting in the holy month of Ramadhan.
Mubaje made the appeal on Thursday while presiding over prayers to mark Eid-El-Fitri at the National Mosque - UMSC Headquarters Old Kampala.
Muslims across Uganda (and the world at large) marked the end of the month of fasting following an official announcement Wednesday night.
Haji Nsereko Mutumba, the spokesperson of the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council, announced on Wednesday that the moon had been sighted in Uganda.
In his speech to hundreds of Muslims who turned up for the Eid prayers, Sheikh Mubaje congratulated them upon completing the holy month of Ramadhan.
He commended the Ugandan government for ensuring freedom of worship, and also hailed President Yoweri Museveni and the Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II for peacefully reaching an agreement on 'ebyaffe' -- property of Baganda.
Mubaje urged all Ugandans to "seek peace, love peace and keep peace".
