The reconstruction of the Kasubi tombs will be completed by the end of March next year, Katikkiro Charles Peter Mayiga has said.
Mayiga made the announcement at the inauguration of a new reconstruction committee, named “Kasubi Masiro Gwanga Mujje”. He tasked the new members to ensure that reconstruction works are completed in the next six months.
It is now four years since fire reduced Kasubi tombs to ashes. The tombs seat on a 64-acre piece of land near Kampala.
The new committee is a merger of different committees which have been previously managing the reconstruction exercise.
Mayiga said his decision to amalgamate all the committees is to have one strong team for efficiency and accountability.
“We had many committees handling different issues and I think there was lack of coordination. I also needed to involve more people on the team to bolster it. I believe with such a team, work will move on smoothly,” he said.
