Five villages in northern Uganda to get electricity

The Government is set to extend electricity supply to villages in Apac, Oyam, Nwoya, Lira and Dokolo districts.

The Government is set to extend electricity supply to villages in Apac, Oyam, Nwoya, Lira and Dokolo districts.


The $6m (about sh18b) power line funded by the OPEC Fund for International Development (OFID), covers a distance of 263km and will benefit several trading centres.

These include Ikwera-Nambieso-Abongomola, Apac-Oleipek-Aluga, Aber- Akara-Amir, Alenga-Kwibale, Amino-Apire-Agongo and Aboko-Chawente-Al ido.

The others are Abany-Acuga-Abongomola, Chobe Safari Lodge, Agwata-Adoko Health Centre III and Dokolo Agro-Investments Ltd.

The construction works, which will be undertaken by C&G Andijes Group Ltd, a Ugandan company, are expected to be completed within 15 months.

Speaking during the site handover to the contractor at Apac district headquarters, Rural Electrification Agency (REA)’s senior project engineer Wegulo Byakatonda, said Apac will be the biggest beneficiary.

“We are going to connect almost 80% of the villages in Apac district,” said Wegulo.
