Stecia's husband gets bail

The husband of local musician, Stecia Mayanja who is battling charges of fraud has been released on bail by Buganda Road chief Magistrates’ Court.

Yesterday, Abbas Mubiru was temporarily released from remand on a cash bail of sh1m by chief magistrate Lillian Buchyana on grounds that he produced substantial sureties in court.

The sureties were bonded at sh5m not cash each.

The sureties include Victoria Bukenya, Godfrey Ssebyala and Andrew Kayonga, a city car dealer.

Bukenya and Ssebalya are both dealers in mobile phones in Kampala.

The trial magistrate also ordered Mubiru to deposit a land title while his sureties deposited passports, LC letters for security purposes.

Mubiru was granted bail during morning hours but was released in the evening after his wife paid bail money in the bank.

Stecia was reportedly seen hiding in her vehicle trying to make phone calls to solicit for money that could bail out her husband.

According to prosecution, 33-year-old Mubiru who resides in Katale-Bunamwaya in Wakiso district obtained the said money from Ddanze pretending that he was selling him a piece of land.

The land in question is allegedly located in Lubowa, Wakiso district.




This, according to prosecution, happened between October and November last year.

Police archives indicate that the accused man has previously been involved in controversies.

Records show that Mubiru was once arrested in Kitebi, Rubaga division after he reportedly failed to pay sh200,000 to a mobile money agent.

Andrew Ssekajoozi, the mobile money agent, told police that Mubiru ordered for a mobile money transaction to his wife Stecia Mayanja and a one Alex Katongole, but he did not pay the sum.

More information reveals that early this month, Mubiru was reportedly arrested by police in Bunamwaya for having failed to pay a debt worth over sh320,000.
