AFTER an inspection at the scene where Aisha Kiiza, 40, was electrocuted, a technical team from UMEME has discovered an illegal underground power connection that caused the fatal accident.

Kiiza, a landlady at Kibuli Kakungulu zone met her death when she tried to rescue a tenant's daughter and one of her children who had been trapped on an electric power line.

“An energized wash line got into contact with an illegal power line that prompted the shock," said Stephen Ilungole, Umeme's media manager.

Residents had earlier on blamed the fatality on Yaka that had just been connected a week ago saying the initial power lines that were poorly wired had not been removed.

Some of the tenants were complaining of electric shocks whenever they spread clothes on the wash lines.

But Ilungole however explained that the place where the Yaka meter was connected was very secure.

Jane Awori, 13, (the tenant's daughter) got out of the house when she accidentally touched an electric wire that prompted her to scream for help.

It is at this point that Shamim Namusisi, one of the land lady's daughters got out of the house only to fall victim.

Following the incident, Kiiza rushed out of the house with a long stick and removed both girls from the electric wire but one of the wires fell on her. She was rushed to Kibuli Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.
