Residents of Lwengo district have petitioned National Council for Higher Education (NCHE) questioning the credibility of former MP of Bukoto South, Muyanja Mbabali's academic papers.
The residents led by Ponsiano Matovu, chairman Buddu Agricultural Farmers Association seek the council to clarify on the duration of a diploma in IT at any Ugandan university.
Matovu said that he recently read from the media that Mbabali graduated with a diploma in Information Technology at Uganda Pentecostal University in Kabarole district.
He added that the same publication quoted the university chancellor saying that Mbabali had been a student at the university for one year.
"In respect to these publications, we want to know how long it takes to complete a diploma course in Uganda," Matovu asserted.
In the petition, the residents tasked the council to explain whether they accredited the institution and when they did.
They also seek to know the minimum requirements for admission to diploma in IT at any university in Uganda.
"Justice Alfonse Owiny-Dollo ruled that Mbabali's election was null and void because he had fraudulently presented false academic documents at the time of his nomination. His A level academic papers were quashed by court, then how can he acquire a diploma without A level certificate?" Matovu wondered.
The Court of Appeal did not only nullified Muyanja Mbabali's election in May 2012 as Member of Parliament but also exposed embarrassing forgeries in his academic transcripts, weakening his chances of contesting in the constituency.
This came after Democratic Party secretary general, Mathias Nsubuga petitioned High Court in Masaka, contending that victor, an NRM flag bearer, did not have the requisite academic qualifications for the job.
Court later observed the inconsistencies in Mbabali's academic papers and threw him out of parliament.
The university academic registrar said, "Since you have all the facts as stated in your letter. Yes we acknowledge that Mbabali was our student having entered the university on a mature entry certificate from Makerere University."
Recently Mbabali was among the 600 students who graduated from Uganda Pentecostal University with a diploma in Information and communication technology.
When contacted Mbabali told New Vision that any one contesting his academic papers should go to court.
