KAMPALA - Right from the rehearsals at Maria Flo on Saturday morning, to the evening at Club Ambience, Nakayiga was coherent, almost perfect on the catwalk, and exuded confidence.

This came a long way to impress the judges Janet Nalugya, Fiona Bizzu and Carol Nantambi and made their job easy to crown her as Miss Uganda Central.

14 other girls took part in the contest and, apart from Nabwowe Juliana and Namuddu Barbara, Nakayiga did not face much competition to take the crown. Many a contestant had passion for fashion and being the voice to the youth to help them.

The girls, whose ages ranged between 18-23 years, cat walked to impress the judges who were fair to their judgment and even those that were eliminated at the first round did not take offence.

The contest kicked off close to 11pm much later than the allotted time of 8pm; the reason was that the revellers were more interested in watching the Champions League finals between Barcelona and Juventus.

Just as the match was about to end, the contest picked zeal and concentration from the show goers who cheered on the girls as they were introduced to the audience. Having done the catwalk, the judges trimmed the numbers to top 10 who were later reduced to five.

The top five, Namuddu Immaculate, Naava Nankya, Nabwowe Juliana, Namuddu Barbara and Nakayiga Zahara had to tussle it on basing on brainpower as all were equally good at answering the questions on environment and its effects on Uganda.

For Zahara, it was her answer on deforestation and polythene bags being a disservice to the environment that could have sprung her to the crown.

She was articulate and knowledgeable in her answers that could have caught the eyes of the judges to have her represent the central in the Miss Uganda beauty pageant.
