She switches off lights in the bedrooms when the children are watching TV in the sitting room. This, according to Pricilla Akello, a resident of Kyengera helps to reduce the cost of electricity every month. Instead of burning electric power to light empty rooms Akello makes the excess electric power available to other people who badly need it.

Uganda is joining the rest of the world to celebrate the World Environment Day today. The local theme of the celebrations is “35 Million People. Limited Resources. Consume with Care”. The Executive Director of National Environment Management Authority (NEMA), Tom Okurut in a statement said the local theme puts emphasis on sustainable actions.
