The First Lady and Minister for Karamoja Affairs, Janet Museveni has eulogised the departed Mary Nanfuka Kisekka as a great leader.

Janet, who is also the MP for Ruhaama, said the country should celebrate rather than mourn the death of Mary Kisekka, the widow of the late former Vice President Dr. Samson Kisekka, because she fulfilled her calling.

“She was a good adviser to young people.  She would take all the opportunities to talk about the family to advise those younger than her about the family and the nurturing of the family,” she said during Tuesday’s funeral service at Najjanankumbi Seventh Day Adventist Church.

The late Mary Kisekka was born on October 2, 1923 to Yokana and Erina Muwonge of Mukono. She got married to the late Vice President, Dr. Samson Kisekka on February 3, 1940.

She studied at Gayaza High School with a crop of ladies, who Rhoda Kalema described as “ God fearing, hardworking, intelligent and respectful” in her eulogy on behalf of  friends.

She succumbed to Diabetes  on Friday.

Paul Walugembe Kisekka, the elder son, described his mother as a “staunch Christian” who nurtured her children very well but most importantly used to cook for National Resistance Army (NRA) freedom fighters during the Luwero triangle bush war (1981-86).

Vice President Edward Kiwanuka said that she had left a huge gap in Uganda, while Prime Minister Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda described her as the “mother of the NRM.”

She will be buried on Wednesday at the family farm in Temangalo, Wakiso district, at 2.00pm.
