Vipers have emerged Azam Uganda Premier League champions.

Striker Farouk Miya struck the crucial goal 37 minutes into the Buikwe match giving coach Edward Golola his second league title.

Vipers finished the race with 69 points, one more than the maximum that their closest rivals SC Villa can get even if they win a petition they lodged.

Miya also walked away with the season’s Most Valuable Player award while Golola emerged best coach.

Golola was all praises for Vipers’ Patron Lawrence Mulindwa after the most well attended match in Buikwe.

“Our patron has been a huge motivation. He always ensured that the team had all it required,” stated Golola.

But it wasn’t an easy ride for the hosts. They were on a number of occasions narrowly missed conceding.

Jinja side Bul Bidco also had its moments, one of these ending on the woodwork after a Nelson Kaliisa strike.

Tito Okello and Robert Achema also came close on a number of occasions.

In an equally tight battle at the bottom, Kira Young lost the fight to remain in the top league by joining Rwenshama and Entebbe in relegation.

Maroons, The Saints and JMC Hippos were recently promoted to the top league.
