About 70 senior four students of Eden International School in the western district of Mbarara were Tuesday sent home following a strike.

The school headmaster, Gershom Mujuni, said students went on strike after the school guards blocked male students from visiting their female counterparts in their dormitories.

Police was called at the school campus in Kyamugorani, Kakiika and fired teargas to disperse the students who had turned rowdy.

They burnt the school fence, destroyed school property and a school guard, Herbert Karuhanga was injured on the head after being hit with a blunt object.

Sixteen students suspected to be ringleaders were arrested and detained at Mbarara Police Station.

The school management convened a meeting and agreed to send Senior Four students at home until further notice.
