Officials of Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS) Tuesday closed down Ecofresh mineral water factory in Bugolobi a Kampala suburb.

According to the UNBS officials, the company was closed due to poor hygiene that exposes the consumers of the water to health risks.

UNBS manager for quality assurance Martin Imalingat said the water contains E-coli which can cause diarrhoea and cholera.

“This brand (ecofresh) is not safe for human consumption. We have been warning them since last year but they turned a deaf ear,” Imalingat said.

Over 100 workers have been affected by the closure and the UNBS officials have vowed to bring to book the Chinese owners who took off.
