Ugandan swimmers could only manage winning 14 medals at the 13th edition of the CANA Zone 4 Swimming Championships that ended on Saturday in Angola.

The nine-man Ugandan team found the going too tough winning four silver from the 100m freestyle relay and nine individual bronze medals from different events.

Ambala Atuhaire Ogola set the pace for the Ugandans when he picked bronze in the 800m freestyle event in the men's 14 years category, before USPA swimmer of the year 2014 Nabil Ahmed Saleh clocked 2:15.14 to claim another bronze in the 200m freestyle race.

Saleh went on to lead the relay team of Fadhil Thabit, Adnan Kabuye and Ambala Atuhaire Ogola to another bronze in the 400m freestyle race.

He later teamed up with Tendo Mukalazi, Fadhil Thabit, Ambala Atuhaire Ogola to claim silver in the 200m freestyle relay in a time of 1:55.60. They were beaten to the gold by South Africa's Smit Naested, Felix Maseko, Mathew Goslin and Andre Groenewald who won in 1:52.36.

Adnan Kabuye and Tendo Mukalazi also picked individual bronze medals in the 200m backstroke and 100m butterfly events in a time of 2:47.81 and 1:16.95 respectively.

Other team Uganda members also found the going tough with Josiah Kasaale Ssempa, Kirabo Namutebi and Avice Kakayi Meya all returning empty handed.

Inspired by Nabil Saleh and Hind Kimberly Uganda collected 32 medals at last year's championship held in Uganda.
