THE minister of trade and cooperatives, Amelia Kyambadde, has urged people to forget about which parties they belong and focus on voting leaders ready to serve their interests.

Kyambadde claimed  that some people have already started bribing voters, a sign of corruption that should be resisted.

“Vote for people ready to serve your interests. Reject people who front their parties and giving bribes. It is up to you to eat these things given to you in darkness, but I urge you to stay focused on the future,” she added.

Kyambadde said this while addressing residents of Kikondo parish, in Kiringente sub-county, Mpigi.

The residents rewarded her with a number of items in appreciation of her efforts in extending clean water and electricity to the area.

Kyambadde also Mawokota North MP, added that many people want leadership positions to gain prominence and wealth but not to serve.

“That's why many areas have never changed for many years. Can you imagine you find areas represented by ministers without a single project?” she noted.

Kyambadde asked people to use their democratic power "the vote" to make right choices to promote development in their respective areas.

“Do not let political parties derail our development. Vote the right people irrespective of their political affiliations as long they can work with Government to serve your interests,” she added.

She said poverty does not discriminate whether one belongs to National Resistance Movement (NRM), Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) or Democratic Party (DP) among others.

Kyambadde said the main focus should be on improved service delivery in the country.

She told her voters that she will not bribe anyone to vote for her, but will only work on the long term projects which benefit the majority.

"Those who want to be bribed in exchange for their votes should wait for other candidates. I train my people how to fish than giving them fish without knowing how to get it," she added.

Kyambadde said her main focus is on youth employment, improving health, education, extending cleaning water and electricity in the entire area in the next five years.

She also urged all people irrespective of their political affiliations to register before the deadline, to easily exercise their democratic right come 2016.

"I urge people to go and register no matter what political party you belong to. If you don't register, you will not vote but others will. That means if you don't vote, you will have to live with the outcomes," she added.

Mpigi district woman MP, Sarah Temulanda said party politics has to some extent affected development because people vote parties without minding about the capability of those they vote.

Isma Mukasa, the Kiringete sub county chief, stressed that Uganda would be far if people were voting responsibly.

"We need to vote people ready to work for us," he said.

NRM chairman of the area, Hood Kyeyune said party politics has blindfolded people thus electing incompetent leaders.
