Ugandan singer Spirit Soul (real name Sarah Nabwami) on Monday night beat all contestants to reach the first ever final of the Maisha Superstars TV realty show.

Her rendition of Whitney Houston’s I have nothing brought many in the crowd to tears, and the judges agreed that while they would not recommend a contestant in any reality show to do a Whitey Houston song, Spirit Soul did it justice.

“Whitney Mariah and MJ are suicidal, they destroy careers of young rookies, but you killed it,” said Tim Rimbui, one of the judges.

She got a total score of 90, to top all contestants for the night. Thus her cumulative score came to 84, only topped by early favourite Phy from Kenya, who has 86.

The other two semi-finalists, Fil-ah from Kenya and Median Soul from Tanzania, tied with a cumulative score of 81.

One of the four was supposed to have been evicted but since the last two had a tied, they both qualified for the finals, which will be held next Monday.

The show started with 6 contestants, two each from Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania. Each contestants had a mentor. Richy Kaweesa, mentored by Maurice Kirya, was the fits to be evicted. Then Tanzanian Myra, mentored by Shaa, was also evicted.

Spirit Soul is mentored by Jose Chameleone while Phy is mentored by Rabbit kaka from Kenya. Fil-ah is mentored Nameless, and Damian Soul by AY from Tanzania.

The winner will walk away with a recording contract, and Ksh2m (sh66m).
