FDC party holds grassroots elections

The FDC has embarked on grassroots elections from the village level to the district level in preparation for the 2016 general elections.

KAMPALA - Uganda’s main opposition party, the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) has embarked on grassroot elections (village to district) in preparation for the 2016 general elections.

Party spokesperson, John Kikonyogo, told journalists that elections started last week beginning with Teso, West Nile, Rwenzori, and some parts of Bukedi.

“We have already successfully held elections in those regions from the village to the district level,” he said.

The exercise has also been taking place in Busoga from April 23, and it will be concluded on April 28 (today).

Between April 28 and May 9, elections will be held in Ankole, Bunyoro, Tooro, some parts of Karamoja, Kigezi, and west Buganda.

From May 10 to May 17, grassroots elections will be held in Central Buganda, South Buganda, Bugisu, some parts of Karamoja, Acholi and Lango regions.

 Kikonyogo said sh1b is to be spent on local polls. He said the delegates’ conference will be held next month.
